This quad-core processor is known for comparatively better performance. Although the price is on the higher side, it’s still considered a value for the money compared to the previous X5482 processor. It’s also based on the 45nm lithography and comes with a 12MB L2 cache. The thing that is changed is the 3.33GHz of base clock speeds which is a bit higher, so you can expect same-tier better performance in most workloads. 

Another thing to notice about this processor is its lesser TDP value at 120 watts. This is the reason why this CPU faces lesser thermal-related issues than the X5482, plus it saves a lot of bucks on electricity. But it has a few downsides as well. It lacks Hyper-Threading and integrated graphics and has a locked base multiplier. In short, consider this CPU for better clock speeds and value for the money than the X5482 processor.

The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 released a bit earlier than the Xeon X5470, but in the same year, 2008. This processor uses the Yorkfield XE architecture, just like the other processors in the Core 3 Extreme stack, based on the 45 nm lithography. It offers a wide range of excellent features like impressive overclocking, competitive performance, etc. Overall, this is an enthusiast-class processor with four cores and four threads.

Although it’s from the Core 2 family, there are several similarities with the Xeon processors. It has the same core/threads count and clock speed as the Xeon X5482. But the thing that is changed with it is the unlocked FSB multiplier. This way, you can adjust the unlocked multiplier as you wish and tweak the overclocking speeds without any issue. This is one of the primary features that makes it different from the Xeon’s locked chips.

Other features of this processor include a 12MB L2 cache and a bus speed of 1600 MHz which is higher than the Xeon X5482 and X5470, which are also on the list. It has a 150W rated TDP value which is a bit on the higher side, like the X5482 chip. But the addition of a stock CPU cooler with this processor makes it stand out from the crowd. The next processor on the list is the Intel Xeon X5460 which was released on 12 November 2007 which means that it came immediately after the Xeon X5482. This processor was originally designed for server-based computers and to deal with office-based workloads. Like its other ancestors and counterparts, this is manufactured with the 45nm processing lithography and is based on Harpertown core architectures. 

It comes with 4/4 cores/threads like all the processors we discussed up to this point; X5482, X5470, and QX9775. One aspect that makes it even better than these CPUs is its value for the money. Although it’s quite expensive, it’s still better in this price/performance regard. Besides that, this comes with a 12MB L2 cache like X5482, X5470, and QX9775, 120W rated TDP, 3.26GHz base clock speed, and a 1333MHz bus speed.

For your information, the L1 cache of 256KB is also with this processor to deal with the most important instructions. Besides several good points, there are some downsides as well. First, it has a locked base multiplier so you can’t tweak clock speed plus can’t use multiplier cores at once due to the absence of the Hyper-Threading feature. Additionally, there is no stock cooling solution, so you have to spend some extra bucks on it.

There are several similarities and differences between the both, but first, I would like to explore the Q9650 from the basics. This CPU was released in the 3rd quarter of 2008 to give a high-end performance boost to server-and office-based computers. This is Intel’s one of the high-performance chips in the stack. 

The Q9650 is based on Yorkfield and is manufactured on the typical 45nm lithography. It comes with a combination of 4 cores and 4 threads, along with a 3.00GHz base clock speed and a 12MB L2 cache. This processor provides better clock speeds than the previous Q9550, with a 3/3GHz base/boost clock speed. Although there is a 95W TDP, you can pump it up to 142W to get the most out of its true performance potential.

One thing about the Q9650 retail boxed chip that wins the users’ hearts is the presence of a stock ‘pancake’ CPU cooling solution. This way, you won’t have to spend some extra bucks on the CPU cooler, like the QX9775, which is also on the list. This CPU undoubtedly offers a wide range of benefits to its user, but it also has some cons. It lacks Hyper-Threading feature, unlocked base multiplier, and integrated graphics support.
